Calvin Johnson: I will need 'a lot of treatment' to play

Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell sounds prepared to rest Calvin Johnson if necessary this weekend. Johnson isn't ready to accept that fate. Johnson told reporters Wednesday he hopes to be on the field when the Lions meet the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Johnson has been slowed considerably in recent weeks by a high ankle sprain. He was forced to come out of Detroit's Week 5 loss to the Buffalo Bills after taking a hard shot on the leg in the third quarter. Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site asked Johnson what it will take to suit up against the Vikings. "A lot of treatment," he replied. Johnson added he's not frustrated by his recent role as a decoy in the Lions' offense, as was reported by NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport this week. In truth, Johnson will likely continue to be used that way until his ankle allows him to regain his customary explosiveness. That probably won't happen until Megatron gets some true rest -- which you can expect will occur this weekend.
